Troubleshooting Unresponsive Endpoints after ESET Endpoint Antivirus Rollout

In recent months, our IT team has encountered an issue with around 2% of managed endpoints becoming unresponsive shortly after booting up. This problem first appeared since the rollout of ESET Endpoint Antivirus version 0 on our Windows 10 devices. The symptoms are quite disturbing: apps freeze, users cannot interact with Explorer elements, network traffic stops, and even the entire Windows GUI becomes unusable for several minutes.

To troubleshoot this issue, we've tried disabling certain features within the ESET Endpoint Antivirus software. Specifically, we've attempted to disable HIPS (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System) Advanced memory scanner, but unfortunately, this has not resolved the problem. We suspect that a memory lock issue might be the root cause of the unresponsiveness, particularly during startup scans.

As a temporary workaround, our users are able to use their devices normally by disabling Realtime protection or uninstalling Endpoint Protection altogether. However, this solution is far from ideal and only provides a short-term fix. Sometimes, simply waiting for a few minutes can resolve the issue, while other times, it's necessary to physically power cycle the device.

In an effort to gather more information about this problem, we're working closely with our local reseller to collect logs and relevant data. We've also searched extensively through the ESET Forum for similar recent posts but couldn't find anything that matches our specific scenario. It's possible that this issue is related to our locale (Italy) or our custom endpoint policies.
